The National Bolshevik Party of Russia (NBP; Russian Национал-Большевистская Партия, НБП ) was a Russian party that defined itself as national Bolshevik and was banned by the Russian Supreme Court in 2007 .

Content profile

According to its self-image, the party was not neo-Nazi , but openly represented nationalist , anti-democratic and socially populist positions. National Socialist and Communist influences were recognizable in both the written and the graphic agitation and propaganda media of the National Bolsheviks . The amalgamation of both ideologies could be seen very well using the example of the flag of the National Bolshevik Party. The NBP party flag was modeled on the swastika flag of the NSDAP , but instead of the swastika it contained the communist workers-and-peasants symbol ( hammer and sickle ), Limonov got the inspiration for the party flag from the film Sid and Nancy , as Sid Vicious in the Public wore a swastika on his T-shirt, this had to be replaced in the film with the hammer and sickle symbol due to legal problems. The communist elements in the ideology and image of the party were also the reason why it was often assigned to the left political spectrum in the Russian media .

According to the party program of 1994, the essence of national Bolshevism was

“… The incinerating hatred of the anti-human system of the Troika, which consists of liberalism, democracy and capitalism. The man of the rebellion, the national Bolshevik, sees his mission in the destruction of the system to the ground. A traditionalist, hierarchical society is built on the ideals of spiritual courage, social and national justice. "

The global goal of national Bolshevism is the creation of an empire from Vladivostok to Gibraltar on the basis of Russian civilization.

In 2004 a new program was also adopted, which largely contradicted the party program of 1994, because the old party program was not suspended. The new program now stated that the party's main goal was to transform Russia "into a modern, powerful state that is respected by other countries and peoples and loved by its own citizens". In order to achieve this goal, among other things, the securing of the free development of a civil society and the independence of the media as well as the end of the Chechnya conflict "with the involvement of all those involved" were called for.

History of the party

The NBP was founded in 1992 after an upswing in national Bolshevism in Russia since the 1990s. In 1994 it adopted a basic program which was updated in 2004 (see above). From the beginning, in contrast to most other political movements in Russia, the party recruited mostly young people under 30 for its work, for which it made itself interesting with unconventional methods and its scandalousness. For example, the slogan “Завершим реформы так: Сталин! Берия! ГУЛАГ! » (“Let's complete the reforms like this: Stalin ! Beria ! GULAG !”), Also abbreviated: “Сталин! Берия! ГУЛАГ! » ("Stalin! Beria! GULAG!)" Etc.

The NBP was ruled unconstitutional and banned by the Moscow District Court in June 2005. The court found it proven that the NBP had sought a violent overthrow in Russia. The NBP appealed the court ruling and was ruled by the Russian Supreme Court. The public prosecutor's office then appealed and was in turn successful. The Supreme Court upheld the Moscow District Court's ruling and on November 15, 2005 declared the NBP to be banned. Despite its illegality, the NBP remained underground and sometimes even openly. In July 2009 the party was weakened by the split of the central Moscow party structure. The background was the expulsion of the Moscow regional chairman at the instigation of party leader Limonov.
