Alexandra (Newport and South Wales) Docks and Railway

The Alexandra (Newport and South Wales) Docks and Railway was a British rail and port company in Newport in Wales .

The company was founded in 1865 as the "Alexandra (Newport) Dock Company". On April 13, 1875, operations began in Newport's Alexandra Port. The company's owners also founded the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway . On August 18, 1882, the two companies merged and named the new company "Alexandra (Newport and South Wales) Docks and Railway".

From 1884 to 1906 ore was transported on the railway line by the Taff Vale Railway . Thereafter, the operation was carried out independently with locomotives taken over from the Mersey Railway . From December 28, 1887 to December 31, 1898 the local passenger traffic was realized by the Great Western Railway and the continuous train traffic by the Rhymney Railway . From 1899 the GWR took over the traffic completely.

By the Railways Act 1921 , the railway company came to Great Western on January 1, 1923.
