Alexandra Schwell

Alexandra Schwell (* 1975 ) is a German anthropologist .

Life

From 1994 to 2002 she studied European ethnology, sociology and political science at the Humboldt University in Berlin and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan . After completing her doctorate in 2007 at the European University Viadrina with research on the cooperation between German and Polish border guards in the European security field, she received a postdoctoral scholarship from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in 2008 . From 2008 to 2016 she was a university assistant at the Institute for European Ethnology at the University of Vienna . In 2014 she conducted research as Chercheure Invitée at the Center canadien d´études allemandes et européennes at the Université de Montréal . In 2016 she was a visiting researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies Vienna, Research Group European Integration. From 2016 to 2017 she was a professor at the Institute for Folklore / Cultural Anthropology at the University of Hamburg . From 2017 to 2018 she was a university professor for empirical cultural studies (§ 99 UG ) at the Institute for Cultural Analysis at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt . From 2018 to 2019 she was university professor for intercultural communication at LMU Munich . Since 2019 she has been a university professor for empirical cultural studies (Section 98 UG) at the Institute for Cultural Analysis in Klagenfurt .

Her main research interests are empirical methods, anthropology of the political, border studies, emotion and affect, and institutions and bureaucracies.
