Alexandros Numeniu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexandros Numeniu ( Greek  Ἀλέξανδρος Νουμηνίου "Alexandros, son of Numenios", Latin Alexander Numenius ) was a Greek rhetor who was active in the first half of the 2nd century AD.

He was the son of the famous rhetorician Numenios , who lived under Emperor Hadrian . Like his father, Alexandros wrote rhetorical textbooks and special writings. Under his name there is a document about figurations of meaning and words ( περὶ τῶν τῆς διανοίας καὶ τῆς λέξεως σχημάτων ), which, however, represents a shortened version ( epitome ) of the original. Only a few excerpts have survived from Alexandros' rhetorical textbook ( τέχνη περὶ ἀφορμῶν ῥητορικῶν ).

Alexandros' rhetorical theory had far-reaching influence on the further development of rhetoric, which is particularly evident in the testimonies of Anonymus Seguerianus .
