Alexej Meschtschanow (* 1973 in Kiev ) is a visual artist and sculptor living in Berlin .

Life

Meschtschanow began studying in 1997 at the Academy of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig in the specialist class of Arno Rink and switched to Timm Rautert's class in 2002 , before he received a diploma in visual arts in 2005. In 2008 he finished his postgraduate studies as a master class student with Timm Rautert.

In the “Biedermeier” group of works, Meschtschanow has been combining bourgeois pieces of furniture with corset-like or prosthetic tubular steel constructions since 2003, which surround the various objects, elevate them and at the same time support and tie them. In the “Album” series, Meschtschanow deals with his own children's drawings that were created between the ages of four and seven. Originally drawn with ballpoint pen on glossy paper, he is exhibiting them as 150 × 100 cm, framed and glazed color photographs. Earlier work included the “Registration Set” campaigns, “Metamorphosis” in the GfZK depot and the “Meschtschanow dream office”.
