Gil Andreas Bronner (* 1962 in Düsseldorf ) is a German real estate developer and art collector .

Life

Bronner, son of the architect Dan-Georg Bronner, who was born in Czechoslovakia in 1931, and his wife Cary, who was born in the area of the League of Nations mandate for Palestine , was born in Düsseldorf in 1962, where his parents came via Israel , Berlin and Hamburg in the same year. The art-interested parents collected art of the classical modern and created the Cary and Dan-Georg Bronner Foundation , which is committed to the promotion of contemporary art and artists. Bronner, who acts as a trustee and board member of this foundation, did an apprenticeship in business administration by studying business administration in Cologne and worked as a real estate entrepreneur in the mid-1990s in the new federal states, where he discovered the art of the New Leipzig School for himself. After stays abroad in the United States, Canada and Japan, the focus of his real estate development is on the cultural sector, in particular on studio houses . As a new member, Bronner introduced himself to the Düsseldorf Jonges at the beginning of 2015 .

Philara collection

From 2006 onwards, Gil Bronner initially housed his own collection, consisting mainly of contemporary art, comprising over 1300 objects, on the site of the former Leitz factory at Walzwerkstrasse 14 in Düsseldorf- Reisholz , where he also organized exhibitions from 2008 onwards and created around 70 studios for local artists and classes at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

Philara Collection (2017)

From October 2014 he had the architectural office Joachim Sieber convert the commercial halls of the former Lennarz glass factory in a back yard at Birkenstrasse 47 in the Düsseldorf district of Flingern into a multifunctional art gallery with a covered exhibition area of over 1700 m², including rooms and cabinets for painting, graphics, Installations, video art and sculptures as well as an area of 220 m² for temporary exhibitions. Part of the premises is on two underground floors. There is also the Café Lennarz and a 550 m² roof terrace for an open-air sculpture exhibition with a view of the Düsseldorf – Elberfeld railway line and the Rethel branch. The main room of this art center, which opened on June 26, 2016, is a two-storey hall that is equipped with a crane runway. The complex, which is used in particular to exhibit parts of Bronner's private collection and shows the industrial architecture of the previous use, also includes areas of a former industrial track. Neighbors in the backyard are the Wim Wenders Foundation , the office of the Düsseldorf District Association of the Federal Association of Visual Artists and the Düsseldorf Film Workshop . The exhibition hall celebrated its premiere as a concert hall with the piano sonata "Waldstein" , which the pianist Igor Levit performed on November 13, 2016.

As a reference to his children Philip and Lara, the art house and collection trade under the name Philara . They are supported by Philara - Association for the Promotion of Contemporary Art and funded by the Cary and Dan-Georg Bronner Foundation . Their aim is to show current developments in the art market. The ever-expanding collection of contemporary art includes works of various genres such as painting, sculpture, installation, photography and works on paper. Its characteristic is the juxtaposition of local young talent and established, internationally active artists. The Art Center and the Philara Collection , curated by Katharina Klang as Director, are among the destinations that prompted the widely read British travel magazine National Geographic Traveler to include Düsseldorf as the only German of 17 travel destinations worldwide in its 2017 Cool List . The Italian business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore also highlighted the importance of the Philara Collection in February 2017 in a report on Düsseldorf's art scene.
