Alexis Sinduhije

Alexis Sinduhije (born May 5, 1967 in Burundi ) is a journalist and opposition leader. In 2001 he founded Radio Publique Africaine (RPA) to promote peace efforts between Hutu and Tutsi in his war-torn country. He was characterized by a balancing report that was unusual for Burundi, and as a Tutsi he adopted a Hutu orphan. In 2008, he was named one of the 100 most influential people by TIME.

As an opposition leader, Sinduhije was arrested in November 2008 and charged with insulting President Pierre Nkurunziza . In March 2009 the charges were dropped and Sinduhije was released from Mpimba Prison.
