Alferio Pappacarbone

Alferio Pappacarbone (* in the 10th century in Salerno ; † April 12, 1050 in the Abbey of Cava) is considered to be the founder of the Benedictine abbey of Cava de 'Tirreni . He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church . His worship was on December 21, 1893 by Pope Leo XIII. approved. His feast day in the liturgy is April 12th. He is depicted as an old man with a shepherd's crook (symbol of the abbot dignity) and a model of the abbey on his left arm.
