Alfie (song)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alfie is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1965 for the feature film of the same name . The first release came from Cilla Black , whose single produced by George Martin reached number 9 on the British charts in 1966. In order to generate more interest for the film in the USA, United Artists decided to record a new version of the piece for the American version of the soundtrack. The choice fell on Cher , whose version was released in the USA in June 1966 and made it to number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 . Dionne Warwick recorded the song for her album Here Where There Is Love , which was released in December 1966. The single was released in March 1967 and reached its best placement on the Billboard Hot 100 in June with rank 15. Over time, numerous other cover versions of the piece followed. In 1967 the song was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Song category.
