Carl Nathan
Carl Nathan (born March 10, 1891 in Mainz , † September 11, 1980 in Basel ) was a bank director and watch collector.
Life
Carl Nathan spent his youth in Brussels . He began his professional career at the J. Dreyfus & Co. bank in Berlin . Later he was called to the headquarters in Frankfurt and from 1920 to Basel. In 1930 Carl Nathan became a Basel citizen and became Swiss.
The couple's grave is in the Hörnli cemetery in Riehen BS.
collection
Carl Nathan bought his first watch in 1951 and his last in 1976. He first collected large clocks and then pocket watches . His collection became famous for carriage clocks . In 1982 the couple Lini and Carl Nathan-Rupp donated their collection to the Basel Historical Museum as a bequest, which is now on display in the Haus zum Kirschgarten .
