Alfonso Nunes de Mattos

Alfonso Nunes de Mattos , also Matos (* 1875 in Porto , Portugal , † 1946 in Portugal) was a Portuguese film producer . He was one of the most important producers in Portugal during the silent film era and one of the most important film producers in Portugal in the first half of the twentieth century.

Life

Alfonso Nunes de Mattos initially worked as a projectionist in Porto. In 1912 he founded " Nunes de Mattos & cia. Invicta Film ", later it was simply renamed " Invicta-Film ". It became one of the most important film production companies in Portugal.

The focus of the company was on the production of documentaries and feature films. Among the feature films, important works of Portuguese-language literature have been filmed, for example by Júlio Dantas , Gervasio Lobato , Julio Dinis , Camilo Castelo Branco , Eca de Queiros and Abel Botelho . Many well-known Portuguese, but also foreign directors such as Rino Lupi or Georges Pallu , were under contract.

He also spent some time in Paris as a producer .

He directed a film and as a producer he was responsible for 24 feature films and several documentaries.
