The Alfred-Faure-Station ( French Base Alfred-Faure ), also called Port Alfred , is a year-round manned sub-Antarctic research station on the Crozet Islands in the southern Indian Ocean . The station is located in the east of the Île de la Possession , a little south of the Baie du Marin , and politically belongs to the French southern and Antarctic regions .

The station was built in 1964 and is operated by the French polar institute Paul Emile Victor . The number of residents fluctuates between 15 and 60. The station is supplied by the research ship Marion Dufresne , which is en route from Réunion, 2,860 km away, for a total of six days.

The fact that the station is inhabited all year round France, allows the use of 200 nautical miles large exclusive economic zone .
