Alfred Gerger (born May 23, 1890 in Vienna ; † January 2, 1953 there ) was an Austrian architect and builder.

Life

Alfred Gerger is the younger brother of the architect Rudolf Otto Gerger . He attended the State Trade School in Vienna, which he graduated in 1909. After a few years of practical experience, he received the master builder license in 1920 and one year later he joined Josef Aicher's company , which they both managed until 1933. The company operated successfully and carried out some community buildings in Vienna.

Alfred Gerger emerged as an architect together with Josef Aicher with the post office in Buchengasse . This building incorporated classical elements in a modified form into the modern design. The most eye-catching feature is the expressionistic corner solution with the tower-like structure drawn up over the roof. Inside, the post office had a modern automatic letter sorting system.
