Irving Alfred Gross (born February 22, 1918 in Toronto , † December 21, 2000 in Sun City , Arizona ) was an American electrical engineer .

Alfred Gross studied electrical engineering at the Case School of Applied Sciences . After the invention of the handheld radio by the Canadian Donald Hings, he found a way to downsize these devices , which at that time were still operated with electron tubes , and to operate them in the upper VHF range.

After the Second World War, among other things, he produced the first devices for CB radio and invented the pager .
