Alfred Kurth

Alfred Kurth (born April 24, 1865 in Grenchen , † February 4, 1937 in Grenchen) was a Swiss watch manufacturer and politician . Together with his brother Adolf, he founded the Certina Kurth Frères SA company in Grenchen in 1888 under the name "Kurth Frères" at the time.

Life

With diligence and perseverance, Alfred Kurth developed from a simple background from a visiter to a watch manufacturer. As early as 1896 he was elected to the council of the Grenchen community as a representative of the Liberal Party . From 1900 to 1917 he held the important office of governor, who often had to replace Ammann in turbulent times. Alfred Kurth also rendered invaluable services to the Reformed parish of Grenchen, of which he was president for 21 years. In this capacity he took an active part in the construction of the reformed church and the first rectory.
