Alfred Malblanc

Alfred Malblanc (* before 1905; † after 1970) was a French German studies, Romance studies , linguist and translation scholar.

life and work

At the end of 1944, Malblanc published a slim book with the Didier publishing house in Paris with the title Pour une stylistique comparée du français et de l'allemand. Essai de représentation linguistique comparée (128 pages), to which he wrote through the style theory of Charles Bally and through the work Unproblemème stylistique de français moderne, étudié dans les œuvres de Georges Courteline. La prédominance des constructions substantives et abstraites (Uppsala 1927) was suggested by Alf Lombard . For their part, inspired by reading Malblanc, Jean-Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet wrote a Stylistique comparée du français et de l'anglais. Méthode de traduction (Paris 1958, Montréal 1960), which became a classic in contrastive linguistics and translation studies and which, after almost 40 years, was still being edited and translated into English. This moved Malblanc to expand his own typeface into the equally successful Stylistique comparée du français et de l'allemand. Essai de représentation linguistique comparée et étude de traduction , Paris 1961, 3rd edition (Didier Verlag) 1966, 5th edition 1977, 2000 (351 pages).

In addition, Malblanc only knows of school fonts published between 1929 and 1970.
