Alfred Melichar

Alfred Melichar (* 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian accordionist . He completed his studies in Vienna and Warsaw , including at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy with Lech Puchnowski , where he obtained a concert diploma.

Since 1980 Melichar has been a teacher for accordion at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz (formerly Bruckner Conservatory), in 1989 he was appointed professor, in 2006 after completing his habilitation as an associate professor. He is also a lecturer at national and international courses and seminars, for example at the Amsterdam New Music Seminar and as a juror at accordion competitions.

Solo concert activity as accordionist a. a. with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, RSO Orchestra Vienna, Bruckner Orchestra Linz and numerous other orchestras.

Through his collaboration with contemporary composers (including Cerha, Dinescu, Kaufmann, Marez Oyens, Tsepkolenko, Urbanner), a large number of new works for accordion and accordion chamber music has emerged.

Melichar also emerges as the author of specialist articles and lectures, radio and television recordings.
