Alfredo Pedro de Meneses Guisado (born October 30, 1891 in Lisbon , Portugal , † December 2, 1975 ibid) was a Portuguese poet, journalist and politician. He was also involved with the legendary Orpheu magazine .

Life

Guisado was born to Galicians who immigrated to Portugal. Throughout his life he remained loyal to the culture and language of the Galicia region and sought the symbiosis between Portugal and this old Spanish province. He graduated from the Law School of the University of Lisbon and graduated as a lawyer in 1921. The archeology enthusiast was also a member of the Associaçao dos Arquelogicos Portugueses , since 1922.

Only a few texts appeared under the author's real name throughout his life , as his involvement as a politician in the shaky Portuguese democracy and his struggle as an oppositionist against the Salazar regime had made him known throughout the country. His pseudonym was Pedro Meneses, which was formed from the components of his middle name and his mother's maiden name. The 15 sonnets he published in the Orpheu magazine were among the best sonnets there were in Portugal at this time. Other magazines for which he worked as a journalist and author were Exilio and Renascença. As deputy editor-in-chief, he was also jointly responsible for the magazine Republica . His work is mainly shaped by Paulism , Symbolism , Saudosism and decadence .

As a politician, he was a supporter of the Republican Party of Portugal, Member of the National Parliament and Deputy Mayor of Lisbon.
