Algirdas Jurgis Bajarkevičius

Algirdas Jurgis Bajarkevičius (* 1947 ; † 1996 in Lithuania ) was a Lithuanian sports official, chess coach and president of the Lithuanian Chess Federation .

Life

Bajarkevičius played chess from childhood. He studied at Prienai High School . He then completed his engineering degree at the technological institute in Baku ( Azerbaijan ). While studying, Bajarkevičius became an athlete in the first category of chess and later a candidate for a sports master. He then returned to Lithuania and lived in Trakai . He worked in the gas industry .

From 1970 to 1985 he worked as a chess trainer in the sports school. From 1985 he lived in Marijampolė . Here he headed the Marijampolė Municipality City Council as chairman . He was a member of the conservative party Tėvynės Sąjunga - Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai (TS-LDK). From 1990 he headed the Lietuvos šachmatų federacija.
