Algol W
The programming language Algol W was proposed by Niklaus Wirth in 1966 as the successor to Algol 60 . In contrast to Algol 68 , it was a relatively conservative further development of Algol 60. Predefined data types for character strings , bit strings and complex numbers as well as compound data types including pointers have been added . The further development of the ideas of Algol W led to Pascal .
