Ali Haidar

Ali Haidar ( Arabic علي حيدر, DMG ʿAlī Ḥaidar , * 1962 in Hama ) is a Syrian politician and chairman of the interreligious and interethnic Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP).

He was elected a member of the Syrian People's Council in the 2012 parliamentary elections in Syria . His SSNP joined forces with the Popular Will Party to form the opposition Popular Front for Change and Freedom .

In 2012 he became Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs under Prime Minister Riad Farid Hejab , from 11 August under Wael al-Halki .

In early 2019, the ministry was transformed into a national reconciliation commission headed by Haidar, which works to improve conflict-ridden relationships among the remaining Syrian population and with returnees as well as within this group.
