Alieu Mboge

Alh. Alieu Mboge (* 1930s; † August 2, 2020 in Banjul ) was a Gambian civil servant, manager and president of the capital's Muslim elders.

Life

Mboge worked during the first republic (1965-1994) as managing director of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) and from 1981 to 1988 at the now defunct National Trading Center (NTC) as managing director. From 1985 to 1993 he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce ( Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) ). During the First Republic, he also served as executive director of the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC). His name appears prominently on the commission of inquiry that was set up by the junta at the time to investigate former state officials. James Bahoum of the then SSHFC, Sankung Fatty and other witnesses mentioned his name to the said commission.

From November 1, 2007 to February 12, 2008, Mboge was interim chairman of the Banjul City Council (BCC ). But it was also said after a report that Mboge was appointed Gambian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates at the end of November. In mid-December 2007, when he was accused in the media of falsifying his résumé, he had not yet been to the Emirates.

He was then appointed as the successor to Kaliba Senghore by President Jammeh as General Director of the Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA). From the beginning of December 2008 to the end of February 2010, Mboge was Managing Director of the Gambia Groundnut Corporation (GGC), his successor being Anthony "Tony" Carvalho.

On September 25, 2016, he became the successor of the late Alh. Ebrima Samba President of the Committee of Muslim elders of Banjul ( Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders (CBME) selected). Previously he was Secretary General of the Committee of which he has been a member since 2013.

Mboge had with the coronavirus infected and was the beginning of August 2020 Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital hospitalized, he died on 2 August. His age was reported as 'in the 80s'.
