Alina Stănculescu

Alina Stănculescu (born April 23, 1990 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian gymnast .

She started gymnastics at CSȘ 3 Steaua Bucharest at the age of five. Stănculescu lived in the same block as Sandra Izbașa of the same age and initially had a similar sporting life as the future Olympic champion. At the Junior European Championships in Amsterdam in 2004, the two won silver with the Romanian team, and Stănculescu was also European champion on the balance beam. At the European Youth Olympic Festival she was second both with the team and on the balance beam.

She achieved her greatest success with the active athletes at the 2006 European Gymnastics Championships . In Volos (Greece) Stănculescu won the silver medal behind the Italians with the Romanian gymnastics team with Sandra Izbaşa, Florica Leonida , Steliana Nistor and Cătălina Ponor . However, her further career was marked by injuries and two weeks before the 2008 Olympic Games, she resigned.

Stănculescu completed a sports degree. She later became a make-up artist and opened a beauty salon in Bucharest in 2014.
