Alekhine Chatard Attack
The Alekhine Chatard attack is an opening variant of the French defense in chess and goes back to the players Albin , Chatard and Alekhine .

The Alekhine Chatard attack arises from the sequence of moves
- 1. e2 – e4 e7 – e6 2. d2 – d4 d7 – d5 3. Nb1 – c3 Ng8 – f6 4. Bc1 – g5 Bf8 – e7
- 5. e4 – e5 Nf6 – d7 6. h2 – h4 ...
and is classified in the ECO codes under the key C14.
The moves of the Alekhine Chatard attack were first played in 1897 by Adolf Albin. In the following years, the Parisian chess player Chatard dealt with this opening variant. The opening variant gained greater popularity through Alekhine, who played it against Fahrni in Mannheim in 1914 .
If Black accepts the offered pawn sacrifice with 6.… Be7xg5 7. h4xg5 Qd8xg5, White has the initiative after the most played 8. Ng1 – h3 Qg5 – e7 9. Nh3 – f4 or receives sufficient compensation after the more recent attempt 8. Qd1 – d3 .
It is also possible to reject the victim using 6.… a7 – a6, 6.… f7 – f6, 6.… 0–0 or 6.… c7 – c5. At 6. ... c7-c5 Black should again take on Ke8xe7 7. Lg5xe7 because 7 ... b5 Dd8xe7 Sc3-the eighth because of quality or the right to castle loses. 6.… a7 – a6 prepares c7 – c5.
