The Allegheny Valley Railroad ( AAR reporting as mark: AVR) is an American shunting - Railway Company in Pennsylvania . The Carload Express company is based in Oakmont, Pennsylvania .

The company took over on October 28, 1995 operations on a previous route on the Pennsylvania Railroad from Pittsburgh to New Kensington . In 2003 the company took over the routes from the LTV Steel subsidiary Monongahela Connecting Railroad in Pittsburgh. In the same year, the AVR took over the CSX route from Allison Park to Washington (Pennsylvania) .

In Pittsburgh there are route rights over the Norfolk Southern to reach the NS marshalling yard "Island Avenue Yard". There are also transitions to the CSX Transportation (Glenwood Yard), the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad ( Allison Park ) and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway ( Bruceton ).

The company has ten locomotives (two EMD GP 10 , four GP 11 and four SW 1500 ) and 30 employees.
