List of apple varieties

Allen's Everlasting is an old apple variety . It used to be one of the most popular dessert apples, but is now just a rare variety.

origin

The variety comes from Ireland and was first cataloged there by Thomas Rivers in 1864. In 1899 she received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society .

description

Allen's Everlasting usually has a very thin, matt, comparatively hard shell, which is sometimes slightly grooved and rough. Their color is mostly characterized as rusty brown or rusty red; however, there are also dark green and dark red fruits - medium size and mostly slightly flattened - with yellow sprinkles. The firm pulp , which can be either very juicy or relatively dry, has a very intense, sweet to slightly sour taste and is very crunchy. Due to the hard skin, it is recommended that the fruits, which are very suitable for immediate consumption, be eaten peeled.

As the name ( de .: Allen's Everlasting / Immortal ) already suggests, the apples can be stored for an exceptionally long time and are ripe for consumption in April, sometimes even in June . The tree has a very small growth and is well suited for the trellis . In England it blooms from mid-May and is harvested in mid-autumn. After planting, it bears fruit relatively quickly, which should be left on the tree as long as possible. However, the yield varies extremely depending on the location.
