Allene Roberts

Allene Roberts (born September 1, 1928 in Birmingham , Alabama - † May 9, 2019 in Huntsville , Alabama) was an American actress . She gained notoriety through her roles in film noirs , especially in 1950 as Lorna Murchison in People Without a Soul .

Life

Allene Roberts was born in 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama, as one of four siblings. Her father worked as an electrician. After his untimely death at the age of 47, Allene and her three brothers were raised by their mother alone.

Roberts began her acting career in 1947 after she was discovered by film producer Sol Lesser and invited to an audition. Her first major role was in the film noir The Red House that same year . In 1949 she played the leading female role in film noir Knock on Any Door on the side of Humphrey Bogart . In the same year followed the female lead in the serial Bomba on Panther Island .

In her ten-year career, Roberts took part in a total of twelve films and several television series, including between 1952 and 1955 in six episodes of the crime series Police Report and 1952 to 1954 in three episodes of The Adventures of Superman . She played her best-known role in 1950 as Lorna Murchison in People Without a Soul , another film noir. Seven years later, Roberts ended her acting career.

Allene Roberts was married to Ralph Cochran from 1955 until his death in 1989 and is the mother of four children. She last lived, widowed, in Huntsville , Alabama. Roberts died there on May 9, 2019 at the age of 90.
