The Alliance for Security in Business e. V. ( ASW Bundesverband ) is an interest group of the German economy. Before it was renamed in 2015, its old name was Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sicherheit der Wirtschaft .

The main goal of the association is to represent the security concerns of the commercial economy vis-à-vis politics and administration in Germany and Europe as well as to promote the communication of security-relevant information between the state and the economy.

The association is a registered association at the district court of Berlin-Charlottenburg (VR 19931) and is headed by a full-time managing director.

aims

In its statutes, the association names the association's goals as follows:

  • professionally represent the security issues of the commercial economy to politics and administration in Germany and Europe
  • Promote cooperation between the state and business to ensure that protection needs are met efficiently.
  • Promote crime prevention and economic protection in the economy.
  • Promote professional training and professional development in the field of risk and safety management in the economy.
  • Promote cooperation among members on issues of operational safety.

history

In 1993 the direct predecessor, the Working Group for Economic Security , was founded with the participation of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

From 2008 the Federal Ministry of the Interior had an "Economic Protection Department". This group was composed of the Working Group for Economic Security , the ministries concerned ( Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology , Foreign Office , Federal Chancellery ) and federal security authorities ( Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Federal Intelligence Service , Federal Criminal Police Office and Customs Criminal Police Office ).

The ministerial group met twice a year to exchange information. The working group for the security of the economy took on the task of forwarding information from the departmental group to the companies and transferring information from the companies to the group. The department is currently inactive.

With the change in leadership from Jörg Peter to Volker Wagner in 2012, a realignment of the association began. In an interview with Annabelle Schott-Lung for the magazine W&S, Wagner names the following focal points:

  • a change in the image of ASW away from the "regulator and controller" to "security as a business enabler"
  • Establish "security as a design criterion" : Security must become an integral part of all processes
  • Establish security as a differentiating factor
  • Define security as a framework for action within laws and standards

On May 22, 2015, in the course of this realignment - after updating the association's goals and adopting new association statutes - the association name was also changed (current name to this day).

In addition, the association regularly publishes guidelines and position papers on current security issues on the association's own website.

public relation

As a result of the global surveillance and espionage affair in 2013, according to press releases, general risk awareness in the economy increased. This was the result of the 11th WIK / ASW safety survey, a survey of safety experts on a voluntary basis. According to this, around 2/3 of the experts expected an increasing threat to companies from cybercrime and saw attacks on communication and company data as the greatest threat. In this context, however, the Working Group for Economic Security warned that although awareness of dangers was increasing, the willingness to act was still too low.

Together with the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the ASW Bundesverband is also organizing an annual security conference on economic protection under the motto "Prevention through information" . The last event took place in May 2015, the theme of the year was “Internal perpetrators - an underestimated danger in companies” . As the responsible publisher, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution publishes an information sheet on this conference every year.
