Alma Cogan

Alma Cogan (born May 19, 1932 in Stepney , London , † October 26, 1966 in London), real name Alma Angela Cohen , was an English pop singer .

Life

Alma Cogan recorded records with hits as early as 1952 . Her first song was To Be Worthy of You . She then sang numerous versions of US hits from the early 1950s . In 1955 she had her first number 1 hit in the Anglo-Saxon charts: in the spring of that year she had her big breakthrough with Dreamboat . All in all, she was the only artist of this time until 1960 18 times in the list of the most played English songs. Between 1953 and 1958, 14 of their singles reached top 20 positions in the British charts. Alma Cogan was always not only in the biography of her sister as The Girl with the Laugh in Her Voice ( Girl with a laugh in his voice indicated). In addition to appearances in Scandinavia and Japan , Alma Cogan also had some hits in Germany. With the German version of the classic Tennessee Waltz published in October 1964 , she reached a tenth place, and with This is how it always begins and Call me, if you have the time, call me, she also came in middle.

In 1966, the doctors diagnosed her with cancer. She could no longer perform, but still wrote some titles under the pseudonym Al Western . Alma Cogan, a friend of Brian Epstein and Paul McCartney , who also released some Beatles songs ( Eight Days a Week and Help! ), Died of her illness at the age of 34 in London's Middlesex Hospital .
