Alonso de Velasco

Alonso de Velasco (* in La Revilla y Ahedo , Province of Burgos , Castile-León , Spain ; † 1649 ) was a Spanish nobleman and from 1609 to 1613 ambassador to Philip III. of Spain with James I of England .

Life

Alonso de Velasco's parents were Juana de Salinas y Angulo and Pedro de Velasco. He was married to Casilda de Velasco and had a son with her, Pedro Fernandez de Velasco.

Velasco was Inspector General of the Spanish Armada . In 1609 he was sent as ambassador to London by King Philip. From 1609 to 1613 the French ambassador in London was Samuel Spifame who was Louis XIII. was instructed to demonstrate a French privilege , which is why Alonso de Velasco avoided the opportunity to meet him. On January 29, 1619 Alonso de Velasco received from Philip III. the right to use the title Conde de la Revilla . Velasco died in 1838. In 1860, Queen Maria Cristiana confirmed to his widow that the title was hereditary.
