Alpine Meadows is a winter sports area in California near Squaw Valley , Placer County .

Alpine Meadows is located between 2083 m and 2633 m elevation west of Lake Tahoe . The ski area extends over an area of approx. 8 km² and is served by a dozen ski lifts. There are few places to stay, which is why most visitors choose a hotel in nearby Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, Donner Pass or Truckee .

On March 31, 1982, a serious avalanche accident occurred in Alpine Meadows , in which seven people died and the headquarters of the local avalanche warning service was destroyed.
