Old Bolshevik ( Russian ста́рый большеви́к , stary bolʹševik ) was the usual name in the Soviet Union for members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union who belonged to the party or the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party before the Communists came to power in the October Revolution of 1917 . Collectively, the Old Bolsheviks were also referred to as the “Old Bolshevik Guard” ( Russian старая большевистская гвардия ) or the “Old Party Guard” .
