history

In 1791 the house was built by an Oerlinghausen linen dealer . There were no house numbers yet, but the building was designated Kolonat No. 88. As a result of the economic problems in the linen trade, the house owner set up a cigar factory in 1855 based on the model of the cigar manufacturers in the city of Bünde . This created the first so-called cigar booth in Oerlinghausen and replaced linen weaving as the main income of the citizens of Oerlinghausen. The cigar industry reached its heyday in the 1870s and at the turn of the century there were still more than a hundred cigar manufacturers in Oerlinghausen. There were four cigar factories on Detmolder Strasse alone, employing around 120 workers. In 1862 the homeowner filed for bankruptcy . The innkeeper Adolf Reuter bought the house and opened a restaurant. His name can still be read today on the front of the house. The former cigar stall is part of today's restaurant Altdeutsche Bierstuben. The house is owned by the Wachsmut-Melm family of pharmacists and is managed by the Kubus family.
