The Alte Anatomie is a building in downtown Tübingen . It was built for the University of Tübingen at the time and is still in their possession.

History of origin

Due to various circumstances, the St. Jacob's Chapel, which had been used for the Anatomical Institute since 1588, was no longer sufficient at the beginning of the 19th century. For this reason, the search for a building site for a new building was started in 1817. A suitable position was only found six years later on Österberg . However, it was not until 1829 that a paved path to the building site was created. In 1833 the construction of the ancient anatomy began. The building was completed within two years and people moved into.

use

In addition to the anatomy, zoology, pathology and physiology were initially housed in the building. These moved into their own buildings by 1874.

From 1879 to 1882 an extension was added to the building, which provided a classroom for the dissection course . From 1933, today's large lecture hall was built in a further extension .

In 1960, plans began to relocate the Anatomical Institute to Schnarrenberg. Therefore, apart from an extension of the course hall and some smaller construction work, little has been changed since then. In recent years, the current ordinances on escape and rescue routes have finally been implemented, which is why the use of the lecture hall has been restricted since then.

Today the Institute for Neuroanatomy is located in the Old Anatomy . The Institute for Clinical anatomy and cell analysis is down to some office space complete in the New Anatomy moved to Schnarrenberg. The dissecting course also takes place here in a technically up-to-date dissecting room. Seminars and tutorials take place in the course rooms of the Ancient Anatomy. The large lecture hall is still used today for almost all anatomy lectures.
