The old cantor school Cuxhaven in Cuxhaven - Döse , Steinmarner Straße 2, is under the protection of historical monuments in Lower Saxony and is included in the list of architectural monuments in the outskirts of the city of Cuxhaven .

history

In 1549 a sexton was hired for the first time in Döse , who was responsible for the church and the upbringing of the children. After that, a cantor school that has not been handed down was built on Kantorweg.

The single-storey clinkered school building from 1814 with a thatched half-hip roof was built by Ritzebüttel Amandus Abendroth during the classicist building period on behalf of the Hamburg bailiff . It stands right next to the cemetery and St. Gertrud's Church , at that time a half-timbered building. In 1836 136 pupils were taught at the church school.

The church college sold the house in an auction in 1847. The cantor and school had previously moved to a new building opposite.

Johannes Meyer became known, since 1898 the school cantor and from 1905 to 1930 rector of the school in Döse. He made the old building better known again.

Today (2020) the house, which was renovated in 2019, is used as the Alte Kantorschule holiday home .
