from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old wall is located about 1.5 km north of Ramersbach in the Ahrweiler Forest . They are the remains of a Celtic refuge . Scientists suspect that the facility was built between 600 and 500 BC. Chr.

The Fliehburg, on a hill of around 430 m above sea level. NN was probably created by settlers in the area to find protection from attackers in times of danger. Although this pre-Christian complex still stands out from the site today, it has been demolished over the years for stone extraction for road construction from Ahrweiler to Ramersbach and so badly destroyed that its extent and its original condition can no longer be precisely determined today . Since refuges were mostly not permanent settlements, only a few remains were found during archaeological excavations. The old wall is also mentioned as a Roman settlement in connection with the Roman villa in Ahrweiler , located around 4 kilometers to the north . The old wall was once a natural monument, the ordinance was repealed due to its condition.
