The old synagogue on the market in Langfuhr ( Polish : Stara Synagoga w Gdańsku-Wrzeszczu ) was located on the eastern part of the market. The synagogue was built in 1775. The reform parish united with the modern parishes of the city of Gdansk in 1883 . The synagogue existed until 1887 when the common Great Synagogue was opened.

history

In Langfuhr (Polish: Wrzeszcz) a large Jewish community emerged in the 18th century, which had over 230 members when its synagogue was built. The first Jews had settled outside the gates of the city of Danzig in the 1680s.

Even before the synagogue was built, a cemetery had been laid out on the northern slope of the Königshöhe. It was occupied until January 1939.

In 1927, the New Synagogue, a second synagogue in the city of Danzig in the Langfuhr district, was completed, the only one of which is still in existence today.

Today there is a fountain in the square of the Old Synagogue - in front of the Manhattan shopping center .
