New synagogue in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz

The New Synagogue in Danzig - Langfuhr ( Polish: Nowa Synagoga w Gdańsku-Wrzeszczu ) was built in 1926–1927 according to plans by the Berlin architects Paul Imberg and Leopold Friedmann.

The Old Synagogue on Markt in Langfuhr existed from 1775 to 1887, after the completion of the Great Synagogue in Gdansk it was closed.

It was demolished during the so-called Reichskristallnacht from November 9th to 10th, 1938. In 1939 the Jewish community finally sold the synagogue to the carpenter's workshop Bernhard Hagemann and Sons. After the Second World War , the building was returned to the Jewish community by the Polish government in October 1945. From 1946 onwards, the synagogue was only poorly repaired due to lack of money. From 1948 to 1951 the building was extensively renovated and then used again as a place of worship by the Jewish community. The synagogue is now a listed building .

Since August 31, 2009, the synagogue has been under the sovereignty of the Danzig administration of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland .
