Alteburg tower

The Alteburgturm on the Alteburg mountain near Arnstadt in Thuringia is a Kaiser Wilhelm tower designed by the Berlin architect Hugo Hartung . The foundation stone was laid on March 22, 1897, the hundredth birthday of Emperor Wilhelm I.

It took the Alteburg-Thurm-Bauverein almost ten years under its management ( government councilor Langbein from Sondershausen, mill owner Robert Münpel, Lord Mayor Bielfeld, economist Krieger, leather manufacturer E. Umbrecht and gardening owner Leid) to collect the required 21,500 marks . Therefore, construction could not begin until spring 1902. The inauguration of the tower took place on August 9, 1902; with words of thanks to the master craftsmen and journeymen involved, Lord Mayor Bielfeld took the tower into the care of the city.

The height of the tower is 20 meters to the top gallery and 28 meters to the top. A memorial plaque with the dedication inscription is attached above the entrance hall:

"In memory /
of the rebuilding / of
the German Empire /
by Kaiser Wilhelm I /
in the glorious years /
1870 and 1871 /
built this imperial tower /
Arnstadt's citizenship."

Busts of Emperor Wilhelm I, Bismarck and Moltkes were placed in the hall, and memorial plaques with the names of the Arnstadt soldiers were also attached.
