The Altenburg Boys 'Choir is a boys' choir of the Altenburg Benedictine Abbey in the municipality of Altenburg bei Horn in Lower Austria .
history
The choir of the Altenburg Boys' Choir, which existed until at least the 19th century, was re-established in 1961 by the abbot of the Altenburg Benedictine Abbey, Maurus Knappek . The members of the choir, which is mainly dedicated to the musical organization of the services in the collegiate church, are housed in a boarding school, which is adjacent to the collegiate church in the north. This boarding school has been under the direction of Ernst and Maria Kugler since 1989. The musical director of the Boys' Choir has been the Stiftskapellmeister and organist Martin Wadsack since September 2015 . The financial basis for the existence of the choir is ensured by the monastery, the support of the cultural department of the state of Lower Austria and a private association.
The members of the choir attend public schools in Horn, such as the grammar school, the secondary school or the commercial academy, some also the 4th grade elementary school and spend the afternoons in the boarding school, where schoolwork is done together and choir rehearsals are completed. There is also time for voice training , games and sports. Those boys who do not drive at night to her parents' home, sleep in the boarding of the pen, which to them as Austria-wide rarity until the AHS - or HAK - Matura is available.

In addition to the musical design of the convent mass in the collegiate church on every second Sunday and on the high public holidays at 10 a.m. during the school year, the choir gives concerts in the monastery on the third Sunday in Advent , on Passion Sunday and a summer concert at the end of school.
Concert tours take the Altenburg Boys' Choir to various countries, so far these have been European countries as well as Israel , Japan , Brazil and Uganda .
