Josef Döller ; Pseudonym : Josef M. Doeller (born December 4, 1954 in Großau / municipality of Raabs an der Thaya ) is an Austrian church musician , cathedral music director in Graz and music teacher .

Career

Döller was a choirboy in Altenburg Abbey , where he gained his first choral experience before he began studying church music and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . His teachers were Michael Radulescu ( organ ), Hans Gillesberger and Erwin Ortner ( choir director ) and Josef Mertin ( performance practice ).

He sang in the Arnold Schoenberg Choir and was Kapellmeister of the Vienna Boys' Choir from 1979 to 1983 , with whom he toured Europe and to North America , East Asia and Australia . In this function he studied the boys 'choir for the liturgy in the Vienna Hofburgkapelle , for cantatas concerts under Nikolaus Harnoncourt and various boys' roles in opera literature for the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Volksoper .

From 1980 to 1984 Döller worked as vicariate choirmaster for the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna and was choirmaster and organist at the cathedral of Wiener Neustadt .

Josef Döller has headed the Graz Cathedral Music since 1984, teaches choir and orchestral conducting and church music as a university lecturer at the Institute for Church Music and Organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and gives lectures at work weeks and choir seminars. As a conductor, he has made guest appearances in Germany and abroad, such as in Minsk , Manila , Rome and Zagreb, and has participated in radio, television and CD recordings.

In 2003, as part of Graz's Capital of Culture year, Döller suggested the composition commission for choir and orchestra of the Society of Cathedral Choir Friends to Michael Radulescu, "Suffering and Death of Our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ" and directed the world premiere .

Josef Döller has been President of Pueri Cantores Austriae since 2009.
