In the old cemetery

The old cemetery in Kornwestheim ( Ludwigsburg district ), about 10 km as the crow flies north of downtown Stuttgart , was opened in 1628 when the plague-dead could no longer be buried in the churchyard of St. Martin's Church. In its south-western corner there is now a lapidarium . In addition to tombstones, there are also gables, arches and a bench . The old cemetery, surrounded by a stone wall, is located in the east of the old town on Aldinger Straße and is only open to the public on some days, which are published in the Kornwestheimer Zeitung and on the town hall.

After the Old Cemetery was closed for burials in 1906 , the city used the New Cemetery 100 meters further east . Mainly war victims of the First World War who were born in Kornwestheim are buried on this . The specialty of this new cemetery is that it is the only one in Germany where people and (domestic) animals are buried together - even if they are spatially separated.
