Old slaughterhouse

The Alte Schlachthof is a socio-cultural event center and outdoor area in Wels (Austria). The spelling Schl8hof has been used for several years .

history

The old slaughterhouse started operations in 1910 as a normal slaughterhouse . In 1978 this was discontinued in the city center and continued by the Handlbauer company . For the most part, the employees were not informed of the closure and were apparently moved overnight. In the meantime, the fire brigade used the site as a depot and garage, until the cultural initiative began to organize events in the small hall in parallel in 1981 and four years later, together with the cultural campaign 1Topf and the cultural initiative Impulse, founded the Alter Schl8hof Wels cultural center . Various institutions and associations have found a new home there over the years and have contributed to the development towards the socio-cultural center. Wolfgang Wasserbauer and Peter Schmidt are in charge there.

Furnishing

The space available for concerts and events of all kinds includes the large hall (approx. 700 standing or 350 seats), the small hall (approx. 200 standing or 50 seats) and a separate room for the bar. There are other buildings on the premises where the institutions are located. There is also a skate area on the premises.

Events

Music Unlimited

Since the beginning of the cultural center, a special kind of festival has accompanied its development: the Music Unlimited Festival. In 1987 the festival took place for the first time and already dealt with experimental music.

Blues festival

Every year at the end of January and beginning of February, the international blues festival, curated by the Wels bougie and blues pianist Martin Pyrker, takes place. The program always features the best names in the European blues and bougie scene.

Skirt in 6 packs

This festival has existed since 2003 and has long been known among rock fans. From 2005 this ran for two days. The "harder" bands played on the first day and the pop and rock bands on the other.

If I can't dance to it

“If I can't dance to it” is an annual cross-over concert for solidarity and political activism organized by the info shop.

Auszeid & Hoibzeid

Since 2006 the "schl8hof juniors" have organized two parties for schoolchildren: Hoibzeid & Auszeid. Every year these festivals are well attended by students and ex-students and are popular in the Wels youth scene. Bands such as Bilderbuch, Yasmo and Krautschädl have already performed at the festivals.

Colorful breeze

The colorful breeze provides the framework for a special form of cultural life with children. Here, children have the opportunity to come into contact with the artists directly before, after or during the performance.
