alternative turkey aid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The alternative Turkeihilfe (ath) was founded in 1979 as an association of individuals who wanted to provide direct aid to the population as a counterpart to the official military and economic aid of the federal government. This dissolved in 1986.

Self-presentation

In a self-presentation it said:

“The ath turns against the 'aid' that only supports the ruling regime and serves a policy that drives the population into ever greater impoverishment. We provide alternative help that benefits people directly and contributes to an improvement in their living situation. We support opposition and politically persecuted people to ensure their survival. We continue to give financial aid to alternative economic projects in which those involved can make their own decisions about their operations. Furthermore, the provision of medication to slums and impoverished villages is planned. "

Another focus of ath was the publication of alternative information materials, with reports on human rights violations being the main focus. For this purpose, an office was opened in Herford at the beginning of the 1980s , in which press reports (mainly from the Turkish press) were archived and the bi- weekly (German) turkey info service was compiled from them.
