Anders Erik Borg (born January 11, 1968 in Stockholm ), resident in Stockholm, is a Swedish economist and, as a politician of the Moderata samlingspartiet , was Swedish Finance Minister from October 6, 2006 to October 3, 2014 . From 2002 to 2006, Borg had already been chief economist and bureau chief of the moderates. He was considered to be the central source of ideas for the Reinfeldt government's economic and financial policy .

Career

Anders Borg was born in Stockholm, but grew up in Norrköping . He studied philosophy , economic history , economics and political science at the Universities of Uppsala and Stockholm . After graduating, he worked as a research assistant at the university, but without completing his doctoral thesis. He was also chairman of the Heimdal political student association and vice-chairman of the Fria Moderata Studentförbundet student association , an association of conservative-liberal students.

After the bourgeois electoral victory in 1991, he became a speechwriter for the then Prime Minister Carl Bildt and was politically competent, especially on social issues, in the coordination office of the State Council Committee, a department of the Swedish government chancellery. After losing the election in 1994, he left politics and in the following years worked for various employers in the private sector, including as chief economist at ABN AMRO in Stockholm and chief analyst at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken . He was also a member of various groups of experts on issues relating to economics and the labor market.

Anders Borg is married with three children and lives in Katrineholm.

Controversy

Shortly after the new government met in the fall of 2006, Borg admitted that he had employed a nanny for years and had not paid the license fee.

In the late 1980s, he said in a television interview that the Reichstag and democracy in themselves are unnecessary for people who can make a living with their own money. In traditionally societal Sweden, this statement was criticized by many as an inappropriate neoliberal view, and Borg also distanced himself from his statements after he was sworn in as minister. Former Prime Minister Göran Persson attacked these statements by Borg in his farewell speech as party leader of the Social Democrats on March 17, 2007.
