Andreas Carlgren (born July 8, 1958 in Västra Ryd , Upplands-Bro municipality ) is a Swedish politician . He belongs to the Center Party and was Environment Minister in the Reinfeldt government between October 6, 2006 and September 29, 2011 .

After completing his teaching degree at Stockholm University , he initially headed the youth organization of the Center Party between 1984 and 1987. From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the council of Ekerö , then from 1994 to 1998 a member of the Reichstag . He served his party as vice chairman between 1992 and 2000. From January 2000 to October 2006 he was General Director of the Swedish Integration Association .

In the 1970s, Carlgren was a member of the protest movement that demonstrated against the Barsebäck nuclear power plant . Due to climate change , he later became a cautious proponent of nuclear power. In June 2010 he played a key role in lifting the ban on the construction of new nuclear reactors in Sweden.

On September 29, 2011, Carlgren was replaced as Environment Minister by Lena Ek as part of a cabinet reshuffle . On this occasion he also gave up his mandate in the Reichstag. Since then he has taught at the Newman Institute in Uppsala , a college for Catholic theology, philosophy and cultural studies.

The avowed Catholic Andreas Carlgren was the first Swedish minister to openly live in a same-sex relationship. He is married to the visual artist Tomas Harila for the second time and has three children from a previous marriage.
