Maria Larsson (born January 20, 1956 in Långasjö , Emmaboda municipality , Småland ) is a Swedish politician of the Christian Democrats ( Kristdemokraterna ). She was Minister in the Fredrik Reinfeldt government from 2006–2014.

Larsson initially trained as a teacher, which she completed in 1978.

In 1998 she was elected to the Reichstag for the Jönköping district. From 2003 to 2015 she was the first deputy chairman of the Christian Democrats ; After the resignation of long-time party leader Alf Svensson , she applied for the chair alongside Göran Hägglund and Mats Odell , but withdrew her application before the election. In 2006 she became Minister for Public Health and Welfare Issues in the Ministry of Social Affairs after the election to the Swedish Reichstag and the victory of the Civil Alliance for Sweden , after the election in 2010 she became Minister for Youth and Seniors.

In the 2014 election she lost her seat as a member of parliament and, because the Reinfeldt government was voted out of office, also her ministerial office. Since May 4, 2015 she has been the Landshövding of Örebro County .
