Lena Ek

Lena Ek (born January 16, 1958 in Mönsterås , Småland ) is a Swedish politician and was a member of the European Parliament for the Centerpartiet between 2004 and 2011 . Between September 2011 and October 2014 she was Swedish Environment Minister.

Life

After studying law, Ek worked from 1987 to 1994 as an Associate Lecturer at the Law Faculty of Lund University. From 1993 to 1995 she was district chairwoman of the Centerpartiet in Östergötland County . From 1994 to 1998 she was a councilor for the municipality of Valdemarsvik , as well as a member of the provincial parliament ( landsting ) and deputy on the board of the provincial parliament of Östergötland County. Ek has been a member of the Centerpartiet's executive committee since 1998. Furthermore, she took over the office of chairwoman of the women's association of the Centerpartiet, which she gave up in 2000 in favor of a post as a member of the executive committee of the party executive committee. Until 2004 she sat inReichstag and was her party's economic spokesperson, both of whom she has held since 1998. In 2004 Ek was elected to the European Parliament . There she belonged to the group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and is a member of the executive committee of her group . On September 29, 2011, she became Swedish Environment Minister in place of Andreas Carlgren .
