Alterra Power is a Canadian company active in the renewable energy field. It was created in 2011 from the merger of Magma Energy and Plutonic Power. The merger brought the company into possession of a wind farm and a hydroelectric power plant in British Columbia , two geothermal power plants in Iceland and one in Nevada . The company currently operates six power plants, which together have an output of around 757 megawatts (MW).
Board
The leading management team consists of nine people who make up the board. The board of directors consists of seven people. The chairman is Ross Beaty, who founded Magma Energy Corp. at the beginning of 2008. for the development of international geothermal projects. Donald McInnes, founder and CEO of Plutonic Power, is a deputy on the Supervisory Board. The current CEO, John Carson, gained his professional experience at General Electric . Lynda Freeman has been responsible for finances since 2013.
business development
In addition to the existing plants in Canada and Iceland, for which an expansion is planned, the company is expanding internationally in the USA, Chile, Peru and Italy. The hydropower plant in British Columbia has an output of 235 MW and is 60% owned by Fiera Axium .
One of the larger projects is a pumped storage lake in British Columbia with a planned capacity of 1000 MW.
