Old High School (Schwäbisch Hall)

The old grammar school at Gymnasiumstraße 2 in Schwäbisch Hall is a former school. In the meantime, municipal offices are housed in the building.

history

The old grammar school was built between 1871 and 1873 according to plans by Christian Friedrich von Leins . The construction was financed by reparation payments from France after the Franco-German War . Initially used as a pure educational facility for boys, the grammar school was later also open to girls after Württemberg allowed women to study from 1904. The first two high school graduates in Hall passed their school-leaving exams in 1909.

Leins based the design of the two-wing school building on Italian models. The stairwell received an elaborate cast iron railing. The building in neo -renaissance style has four floors.
